Hi all, it’s Louise from Wynnum here.

It is with many mixed emotions that I share with our loyal patrons the news that I will be slowly moving on from Malpass Tennis.

I’ve been afforded an opportunity for an exciting new career and I have decided to take it.

It does mean that I will slowly be phasing out from my role as Venue Co-ordinator of the Wynnum Tennis Centre, but it certainly will not be goodbye.

You’ll definitely still see me around from time to time, at the moment I’ll still be here in the evenings just to ensure things are still running as smooth as they can be. I will also still be running the monthly South African Social Tennis.

Besides, Major the Staffy needs a good court run every now & again too! 😋 (I think he will be missing all the kids affection the most).

Thank you for all of your kindness, laughs & just overall friendliness. For this girl to know nothing about tennis at the beginning (I knew there was a net, 2 racquets & a ball involved) to watching AND FOLLOWING the Australian Open, it’s been a crazy ride - but I enjoyed every moment of it.

It is official, we have our next South African Social Tennis date locked in!
(Cue the “Lock it in Eddie” remarks 😜)

We have a once-a-month Social Tennis gathering for everyone South African interested in meeting others from our home country and share a game of tennis!

We have some people who play seriously, some just wanting to hit the ball with their kids or like me.. sit to the side & let the experts show us how and have a good chat!

We have food, drinks & some shelter from the afternoon sun.

As of tomorrow, Wednesday 2 February 2022 - Wynnum will have a permanent time change of the Drills & Skills program to start at 6:30pm and run til 8pm. (Previously was 7:30-9pm)

Term 4 2021 Holiday Clinic has been hands down our most jam packed to date! We were all hands on deck with as many staff as we could get to host 81 CHILDREN! That is a LOT of support from our community & so amazing to see kids loving tennis as much as we do! Hopefully they have learnt something new today, made a new friend or two & add it to the memory bank.
Can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow; let’s see what turnout we have!

Had a wonderful little turn out at our first ever South African Social Tennis today!

The humidity didn’t keep the people away which is great, everyone has had an enjoyable time and it’s great to see the kids get involved as well!

Can’t wait to have the next one in a month’s time; thank you to all who came and for those who brought some foods/drink.

Some people have driven almost an hour to get here today which is so heartwarming to know.

Here at Malpass Tennis we are always looking for new opportunities to contribute to the community that has supported us through all the highs & lows; and putting our foot down with Domestic Violence is an issue we are serious about.

In partnership with #dvsafephone , Malpass Tennis is so proud to now be a collection point (at Wynnum Tennis Association & East Brisbane Tennis Centre) for any old phones you may have lying around your house that are of no use to YOU anymore, but could very well SAVE SOMEONE’S LIFE. (Please note our clubhouses are only staffed during weekdays in the afternoon from 3pm - 7pm)

It is statistically proven that the victim’s mobile phone is the first thing that most perpetrators seek to destroy, throw or steal - giving the victim no access to life saving assistance by calling for help.
Your old phone will be given by DV agencies to give to victims to hide in the house, so that they can call 000 in the case of an emergency and also assist them in making safe exit plans in search of a more peaceful life.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN OLD PHONE, you can donate to help them get chargers, phone credit, etc. and replacement parts. This is just as important as the phone itself.

This is something that our Wynnum venue coordinator Louise is super passionate about, being a DV survivor herself - please know if you are going through domestic violence, she is a SAFE person to speak to & will respect you and will help you get the assistance you need.
